About eMasters in Derivatives Market and Risk Management

The program has a strong focus on the application of commodity derivatives in improving risk management practices in concerned organizations. It offers an opportunity to work on a maximum of four projects which provide hands-on skills with actual data of the commodity derivatives markets. Eligibility

  • Bachelor's Degree (4 years program) or a Masters Degree in the relevant discipline (Engineering/Science/Economics/MBA, etc) with at least 55% marks or 5.5/10 CPI.
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience (You need not be currently employed to be eligible).
  • Candidates with relevant experience will be preferred.

Core Modules

  • Foundations of Economics and Finance
    The module provides an in-depth overview of the top-down and bottom-up approaches to investments. The module will equip the students with macroeconomic analysis and basic tools of investments. The hands-on experience with macroeconomic data and financial products is another added feature.
  • Introduction to Derivatives Contracts
    The module will cover generic derivatives products including stocks and commodities. The main aim is to equip the students with different valuation approaches for stocks, bonds, forex, and storable and non-storable commodities. Exposure to carbon products is also an added feature to this module.
  • Financial Econometrics
    In the derivatives market set-up, the understanding of statistical tools is a prerequisite as it helps make data-driven investment decisions. The module on financial econometrics will harness the backgrounds of the above two modules. The module will mainly focus on time-series modelling and forecasts on R and Python. The specific topics may include the asset-pricing, price discovery (static and dynamic), hedging effectiveness, speculation and arbitrage. The module will have more focus on data-driven learning.
  • Security Analysis and Portfolio Management
    This module is the heart of finance and without the discussion on different approaches of portfolio formulation and optimization, the program may not look complete. Unlike conventional security and portfolio analysis, the module will focus on the recent developments in security and portfolio analysis with live discussions.

Elective Modules:

  • Advanced Derivative Contracts and Pricing
    This module will focus on product design and development. The financialization aspect of commodities will be dealt with in detail. The approach would be to equip the participants with recent developments in all spheres of derivatives contract, commodities indices, spillover effects, the specifications of contracts and pricing of different commodities. The futures and spot market interactions. The role of options trading in different segments of derivatives markets. The pricing will highlight the valuation methods. This module is an advanced version of Introduction to Derivatives Contracts.
  • Advanced Financial Modeling
    This module is extremely suitable for quantitative finance enthusiasts who want to further their understanding of derivatives analysis. The multivariate time-series models and state-space models will be used to showcase the interactions of different derivatives products. The role of satellite and dominant markets. The application of high-frequency data will be another added feature of this module. Hands-on experience in R and Python with data is added to this module. The module is an updated version of financial econometrics.
  • Blockchain Applications in Commodity Markets
    The module provides an overview of blockchain technology in the commodity market. It will cover the wider application of blockchain activities in commodity trading.
  • Stochastic Finance
    The foundations of stochastic finance are crucial as it helps understand the different properties of financial time-series, including sudden changes or jumps in a stock or commodity price. The module aims at providing an enriching experience of understanding these tools and techniques.
  • Commodity Derivatives
    The module provides a deeper understanding of commodity derivatives, including their characteristics, standards, and market dynamics.
  • Technical Analysis in Commodity Markets
    The module helps understand the price movements and basics of price movement with respect to demand and supply. The program participants will gain an insight into various methods of detecting and identifying the trends and develop trading strategies with appropriate quantitative methods.
  • Energy Derivatives
    The module is designed to deliver insight into widely traded energy derivative instruments. The program participants will also gain knowledge of potential strategies for hedging and risk management techniques.
  • Financial Derivatives and Risk Management
    This module is designed to cover topics beyond Advanced Derivatives Modelling and Pricing and have some applications to advanced financial modelling tools. The approach of this module is to provide exposure to financial derivatives other than commodities and focus on the niche areas of the derivatives markets. The module is suitable for hedgers and risk managers who have experience in either forex and equity segments. The evaluation of bonds will be an added feature of this module. The module also has market-based research in which participants will be allowed to discuss their practical investment decision problems. Experts will also be using case studies and conduct live discussions.
  • Forex Derivatives
    Forex derivatives are extremely useful for professionals working in the banking and investment domains with substantial exposure to hedging risk. The exchange rate variations often hit the earnings of firms. In this module, the approach is to cover those practical issues with theoretical and practical exposure to different tenets of forex derivatives.
